Belding
26 April 2008I spoke last night at the warehouse in Belding, MI to 40 teens. If you were there, you know what happened. You may be one of the 22 teens that prayed for the first time to give your life to Jesus. If so, congrads! It was an awesome night. If you did pray to receive Jesus as your Savior, I want to say a few things to you. First, get ready! Satan is going to work overtime to convince you that what God did in your life last night was no big deal. It was a big deal! It is the biggest deal of your life. As we talked last night, the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. If you gave your life to Him, you are now saved. Saved from hell. Saved from an eternity apart from God. And, get this, saved from the junk of your home life. Every one of you that I talked with last night comes from a broken home - divorce, incest, rape, murder, cheating, lying, drugs, cutting, and more. You need to know that though you still went home last night to the same environment, you went home as a new person. As the bible says, the old is gone in your life and you’ve “put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness - Ephesians 4:24. This means that even though your home life may still suck to you, and your parents still may continue to fail you, you are a new person. You are changed. And, you have the Savior of the world living you. You can’t change how your parents react or respond to life, but you can now begin to take steps to live a life that God desires you live.
This may mean that you need to start suronding yourself with people that encourage you in your new relationship with Christ. This may also mean that you need to walk away from some relationships that may pull you away from living as God desires you live. Girls listen! I talked with many of you who are sleeping around with whoever will give you the time. I talked with a few of you who are dating guys and girls. I talked with a few of you who are so desperate for attention, you are having sex, oral sex, or whatever you think you need to do with whatever guy will give you the chance. I also know that as I looked into your eyes, you were empty, hopeless, hurting, scared, and lonely. No guy is ever going to fill this hole in your heart, no matter how many times you go to bed with him. And, at the end of the night, you know the truth - - all you do is go home feeling as empty as you felt before you slept with him. Stop! Stop looking to the next hook-up for significance and start looking to the only person who can make you feel of value - Jesus.
If you aren’t spending time at church, now is the time to do so! Braden Briton at the warehouse meets every Sunday night with teens and speaks good stuff into their lives. You need to be there! If you were one of those teens who raised their hand and said “I don’t have a bible,” go find Braden tomorrow and tell him you want one. Then, commit to spending time each day, if only for a few minutes, reading it. I encourage you to start in the book of John. And most importantly, you will never full know God, nor His will for your life, until you begin to spend time talking to Him. Just as you know a lot about your very best friend, God to wants you to know everything about him. This will only happen as you commit time to Him reading the Bible, praying to Him, and listening to Him as He begins to speak to you. For those of you who gave your life to Jesus last night, this is just the beginning. God wants to take you on an incredible journey that will absolutely blow your mind if you let Him. It’s not about doing everything right today. It’s not about changing your home life today. It’s about today, and each day after, one day at a time, giving Him more of you. Do that, and even though it may seem everyone else has let you down, you will see that He never will.
