Camp Berea
9 June 2008I returned to Camp Berea this weekend to spend a few days with a couple hundred men of all ages. I spoke at Berea’s Father-Son Retreat, and, what a time we had! I watched God move throughout the weekend as 30+ sons and 5 fathers prayed to receive Christ as Savior.
There are few sights more cool to me than watching a group of men let go of all inhibitions and spend 40+ hours fully engrossed in their kids. These fathers and sons played baseball, basketball, went fishing, swimming, boating, rock-wall climbing, and more. One hundred young men made memories with their dads that they will never forget. One hundred fathers are extremely sore today!
To all the men at Camp Berea who gave a weekend to be a kid again with your kid, I praise you. But remember, it doesn’t take a camp and a paint ball gun to give your kids attention. It just takes your time. Take time each week to make memories with them.
To all the sons who spent a weekend reminding your dads how fun two days playing in the sun can be, go give him a Haitian hug today and thank him for reminding you how cool of a dad he really is. But, don’t squeeze too hard. He can probably barely get out of bed today.
I am married to Amy. I have two daughters, Bailey and Brynnan. Though we rarely have a winning season, I am a Razorback fan. I am a pastor, author, and communicator. I love teens, ice tea, Mac, and I believe any day is a good day when it is spent on my boat.
